The dress shoe is one of the most complicated items in the world of formal wear. The reason for this is because it cannot be matched up directly with the suit or tuxedo. For instance, just because you have a blue suit with a red tie does not mean you can wear blue and red shoes.
I wrote this article to help men choose the correct pair of shoes to wear with their formal wear. After reading this article you will know which colors and styles should be worn with formal wear.
Colors dictate how formal a pair of footwear can be. The darker the color the more formal the shoe will be. For instance a black shoe is more formal than a brown shoe.
The way a shoe can and is shined is a great indicator of how formal the dress shoe is. Rules for shining shoes say that the shinier the shoe is the more formal the shoe is.
The pattern on a shoe can give a clear indication as to how formal the shoe is. Shoes with little to no design work are considered to be more formal than shoes with more designs on them.
The most formal shoe of them all would be a highly shined black shoe without any design work. This shoe would be something you would want to wear to a black tie event.
The least formal shoe would be a shoe with intricate design patterns, no shine, and in a light color such as brown or even white. This type of shoe is a great shoe to wear to church or a party.
I hope this article gave you all the necessary tips you need to buy the correct type of dress shoe. Remember to consider what type of event you will be wearing your shoe to before making your final choice.
