IOTV or the new Improved Outer Tactical Vest is the latest development in Body Armor technology. IOTV is not only three pounds lighter than its predecessor but also provides more protection to the wearer. The US army has approved its use and it will be made available to the soldiers stationed at Afghanistan and Iraq. For increasing the protection available to the soldiers using the least possible Body Armor weight, the US army is continuously upgrading its armor technology and will soon roll out IOTV to the soldiers in the hostile foreign territories. The ever increasing demand of soldiers for reducing the weight of the Body Armor all along with increased protection has been some what met with the introduction of the IOTV which is almost three pounds lighter that its predecessor. This reduction in weight has been achieved by elimination of overlap and reducing the overlapping to bare minimum where absolutely necessary.
The new IOTV Body Armor uses an integrated throat protection which is more comfortable than the earlier detachable one. The side plates are also integrated and have extended the coverage by a whole 52 square inches in total.
The IOVT is not lacking in the protection front also. The Body Armor provides much required protection. Another innovative feature has been added to quick rescue of the injured is a quick release system which when tugged allows the whole Body Armor to take off the Body Armor and all its attachments with a single pull. The tug results in the Body Armor falling apart in two separate parts which can always be but together again in minutes. This feature is extremely helpful to medical teams assisting the soldiers wounded in combat or better still they can access the body of the soldier without even removing the protection through a an opening on left shoulder. The new version provides comfort and the much required utility.
